Fantastic Fest is thrilled to announce changes to its programming team, as well as a new initiative for discovering new talent and championing underrepresented voices.

Today, Fantastic Fest is thrilled to announce some changes to its programming team, as well as a new initiative to become a leader within the genre industry for discovering new talent and championing underrepresented voices.

Effective immediately, Annick Mahnert is joining us as Fantastic Fest’s Director of International Programming. Annick has been a programmer at Fantastic Fest for four years, and has considerable experience in the fields of sales, distribution and programming. Says Annick: “Fantastic Fest has felt like home since I first attended, so it’s truly an honor to be its next Director of International Programming. I will work hard to help the festival expand further and to give new talents a platform to share their cinematic vision.”

Another exciting change to the team finds Logan Taylor coming onboard as our head of submissions. Logan is an established film professor and programmer who joined Fantastic Fest last year. She says, "I'm thrilled to be overseeing a diverse group of screeners to help us further expand the range and variety of the always bold, always unique Fantastic Fest programming." Logan has already chosen her expanded team with five further screeners who’ll join her in shaping the 2018 edition of Fantastic Fest.

Additionally, Noah Lee - previously the head of our submissions team - will continue his tenure with the festival as part of Fantastic Fest’s programming team.

Jean Lauer who has been helping the festival as a Program Manager will now be working alongside Peter Kuplowsky in shaping the shorts program at this year’s Fantastic Fest.

France-based Sonia Droulhiole is also joining the Fantastic Fest team, following many years working within the film industry in production and international sales, including a stint at the very well respected WTFilms. She says, “I’m incredibly honored and excited to join the Fantastic Fest team, who have championed genre films for more than a decade, and I look forward to contributing to its cutting edge programming.”

The festival is also spearheading a unique initiative in order allow talented individuals to apply to join the Fantastic Fest submissions team for future editions. In the coming days, the Fantastic Fest website will be updated with details on how aspiring programmers can apply to be a part of the team, learn skills hands-on and help shape the future of genre cinema. Every year an intake of candidates will see the team constantly evolving and training. Creative Director Evrim Ersoy says, “It’s an honor to be spearheading this innovative and ambitious route to discover new talent. For far too long, programming has felt like a mystery box. It’s time to open the box to allow access for more people within the field, including those severely underrepresented within the film industry.”

Fantastic Fest 2018 will be held in Austin, Texas from September 20th to the 27th, with additional screenings in San Francisco, New York and Denver the following weekend.
