Fantastic Arcade 2013 Spotlight Games and Tournaments Announced!

The Fourth Annual Fantastic Arcade will light up Fantastic Fest, no quarters needed.

Each year Fantastic Arcade selects over twenty of the greatest new independent videogames to show off as a part of Fantastic Fest. Eight of these games are specially selected, by virtue of their 'arcadiness', to be featured in specially made old-school arcade cabinets. These games have accessible controls, are quick to pick up and hard to walk away from, are fun for spectators and players alike, and are singular in their vision and unique in their madness.

Without further ado, the 2013 Fantastic Arcade Spotlight section consists of:

Samurai Gunn (Beau Blyth)
A suprise tournament favorite at last year’s Fantastic Arcade (while still in beta), Samurai Gunn returns as a completed lightning-fast Bushido brawler with guns, meant for 2-4 players.

Wasteland Kings (Vlambeer)
Wasteland Kings is a post-apocalyptic action roguelike about mutants fighting for the throne. Find powerful weapons, uncover secret areas and grow new limbs, all in a couple of minutes.

Goblet Grotto (The Catamites and K Chastain)
Stephen "The Catamites" Gillmurphy and K Chastain’s Goblet Grotto is a gleefully transgressive experiment in dungeon crawling that is as absurd as it is fun to play.

Panoramical (Fernando Ramallo, David Kanaga)
Panoramical is a series of interactive musical landscapes. Players alter abstract environments, gradually changing the worlds' shapes and sounds. Every combination produces a different visual and musical landscape that is generated on the fly.

Q.E.D. (Stephen Ascher)
Q.E.D. is a breakdancing videogame. It is bouncy and squishy. It is about the joys of kinesis. It is about busting an unfathomably wicked move in front of your rival and then striking a b-boy pose and uttering, cooly but decisively, "Q. E. D."

Starwhal: Just the Tip (Breakfall)
Starwhal is a multiplayer game of floppy mayhem. Use all your space narwhal skills to pierce other players' hearts while keeping yours safe!

No Brakes Valet (Justin Smith)
Park all the cars as best you can. Do you have brakes or no brakes? Sometimes it's hard to tell.

Towerfall (Matt Thorson)
TowerFall is an archery combat platformer for up to 4 players. The core mechanics are simple and accessible, but combat is fast and fierce.

Dozens of additional games will be added to the full Arcade lineup within the coming weeks. Special tournaments and exposition plays are also planned, including Samurai Gunn, Towerfall, Santa Ragione’s VideoHeroeS, Starwhal, Marc “Messhof” Essen and Chris Osborn's Poocuzzi, and Ben Esposito’s Pistol Cat.

About Fantastic Arcade
Fantastic Arcade introduces the worlds of fantastic film and independent games to one another over cocktails.  At Fantastic Arcade, we showcase a curated selection of brand new independent games as well as a larger sampling of important groundbreaking independent games from the last couple of years, with international guest developers in attendance to show off their work, talk about the state of independent gaming via panels, and interact with attendees during play sessions and nightly parties and happy hours. We feel that video games rightfully belong side by side with shorts and feature films at Fantastic Fest. The artistic merit of these games will be honored with both audience awards and a juried competition. Admission to Fantastic Arcade is free and open to the public.
