Greetings from Fantastic Fest Day 4! We're halfway through this sucker and having the time of our lives with all of you fine friends. Hope everyone's hanging in there, and if you need anything, don't hesitate to let us know at [email protected].
A reminder! Every day we'll be posting Facebook Live videos of various Q&As and events. Tonight we'll have footage of the intros and Q&As for NUDE VAMPIRE, BODIED, GERALD'S GAME, PROFESSOR MARSTON AND THE WONDER WOMEN, THE ENDLESS, VIDAR THE VAMPIRE and MOM AND DAD, plus footage from Leonard Maltin's talk with Gilbert Gottfried! So make sure you're following us on Facebook to stay caught up with all of that fun - and if you or your friends want to attend Fantastic Fest screenings without a badge, you can check this link every day to see what movies are available for non-badgeholders to purchase tickets!
Yesterday we watched rousing Q&As for YALLA! The Arab Genre Shorts, 78/52, TOP KNOT DETECTIVE, GEMINI, HAUNTERS: THE ART OF THE SCARE, FIRSTBORN, BAT PUSSY, WORLD OF TOMORROW, SUPER DARK TIMES, JUVENILE, 1922, RON GOOSSENS: LOW-BUDGET STUNTMAN, WIZARD, THE SQUARE, BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99, MY FRIEND DAHMER, REVENGE, JAILBREAK and 1%.
We also had a blast at the AGFA mixer, the live recording of Maltin on Movies with Vince Vaughn and the annual shotgun adventure.
And finally, of course we had our TENTH ANNUAL Fantastic Debates! For Round 1, festival director Evrim Ersoy debated legend Udo Kier (with Geno Segers and Debates mainstay/South Austin Gym owner Randy Palmer operating as tag-in fighters). Their topic? RESOLVED: The Greatest Cinematic Vampire is Christopher Lee. Unsurprisingly, Udo Kier won that round in favor of himself as the greatest cinematic vampire.
For Round 2, SpectreVision Creative Executive Suki-Rose Simakis debated professional heel Chad Boyle. Up for debate? (To be clear: this topic is not actually up for debate.) RESOLVED: Women Matter In The Film Community And We All Need To Do Better. Simakis CLEANED THE HELL UP.
Round 3: actor, writer, producer and director Graham Skipper took on other actor, writer, producer and director Matt Mercer. They duked it out over the following topic - RESOLVED: As a Filmmaker AND As a Human, Paul W.S. Anderson is Superior to Paul Thomas Anderson in Every Way. This one might surprise you! Ol' PWSA won by virtue of Skipper's superior perlocutionary and pugilistic skills.
And finally, Round 4: editor and sound designer Josh Ethier argued against filmmaker Adam Egypt Mortimer. RESOLVED: The Single Finest Stephen King Adaptation in Film History is… CHRISTINE. Josh stumped for CHRISTINE, and Adam stumped for...literally any other Stephen King adaptation ever (though specifically CARRIE). And the winner was Adam!
