THEY WEAR NO CLOTHES: Bettie Page, Nude Volleyball and more! Rare 35mm Nudie Cuties at the Ritz

Classic, hilarious nudie cuties from the golden age of female shapeliness and male cluelessness.

Typically when you see a slug line like "in archival 35mm" the film in question is some highly regarded classic being presented at Cinema Club or as part of AFS Essential Cinema. This time it's a little different. We're bringing you the highbrow side of lowbrow film with a three week series of mind-blowing and hilarious adult films from the '30s through the '50s. We feel pretty safe in saying that once these go back into UCLA's vault, you will never have a chance to see these prints screened again.
This Wednesday October 12 we will kick off the series with a 35mm print of Irving Klaw's VARIETEASE. Justly famous as one of the two big screen appearances of Bettie Page (who is phenomenal, of course), VARIETEASE is also a very special historical document of a pretty typical stage burlesque show. In addition to the strip performances by the likes of Lili St. Cyr and Chris LaChris, there are baggy pants comedians performing jokes dating back to the Jurassic period, a terrible singer and even stripper Vicki Lynn, who has that "extra something" (you'll just have to watch the movie to find out what it is).
Here's a trailer to whet your appetite.
Also screening as part of this week's program is THE BODY BEAUTIFUL, a short feature about female pulchritude narrated in classic clueless-male fashion.
Be sure to see all three installments of the phenomenally rare THEY WEAR NO CLOTHES series. On October 19, we will present ELYSIA, VALLEY OF THE NUDE as well as the (exceedingly) titular short THEY WEAR NO CLOTHES. On October 26, go insane with the over-the-top rural insult CHILD BRIDE and the genuinely demented SEX MADNESS.
Special thanks to the UCLA Film and Video Archive and Skip ELsheimer for making this series possible.
